BrightStar Care is a home health care company founded by couples, Shelly, and J.D. Sun. The company is the product of the couple’s experience in finding the best senior care institution for J.D.’s sick grandmother. Shelly and her husband decided to build a company that offers a full continuum of care. Shelly Sun put her heart and soul on the company. She conducted thorough research, especially in the areas of aging and health trends. She used her background as CPA and work experiences as corporate controller and an executive position at two insurance companies in the country. Shelly and her husband became franchise owners of two hotels (Carlton Suites and Choice Hotels property). They see how franchising work and they used such concept for BrightStar Care.
In 2004, Shelly wrote franchise operations manual and a year after BrightStar Care became an established franchise and in fact, being the very first franchisor in the United States offering medical care, nonmedical care, and healthcare staffing. That was the start of the rapid success of BrightStar Care. It has grown from one company to another and has reached more than 160 locations in more than 31 states.

The leadership style of Shelly Sun has enabled her to won several recognition’s and awards. As a matter of fact, she received one of the highest honors in the franchising industry, the IFA 
Entrepreneur of the Year in 2010. By the year 2019, Shelly aims to have a total of eight franchise brands, a franchise consulting company, and a technology company. Shelly is a hands-on CEO. She personally oversees the strategy and innovation plans for the company. She also engages with all departments thereby making sure that everyone is on board with the mission and vision of the company.
Shelly oversees the recruitment of her people. She makes sure that everyone in her team possesses a world class talent, unmatched work ethic, and has a real passion for business. She makes sure that everyone in the team works hard to achieve the goal of BrightStar Care.
